IRATA System – Training and Levels

The IRATA system includes three levels of advancement, often referred to by the abbreviations: L1, L2, L3. Trainees start at the first level (L1), and in subsequent years they can renew their qualifications or advance to higher levels.

What does the training look like?

  • Duration: IRATA training lasts 5 days, with an additional day dedicated to the assessment. Each training day includes approximately 8 hours of instruction.
  • Assessment: Certification is conducted in the form of an assessment carried out by an independent assessor who visits the accredited training center.
  • Scope: The training includes both theoretical and practical components, and the assessment verifies knowledge and skills in both areas.

Detailed information and documentation:

Thanks to these guidelines and strict certification standards, the IRATA system is recognized as the safest and most professional in the rope access industry.

How long is an IRATA certificate valid?

An IRATA certificate is issued for a period of 3 years. To maintain certification continuity, a technician must complete the re-certification assessment no later than the last day of the certificate’s validity. This assessment is preceded by a minimum 4-day training course, which refreshes the technician’s knowledge and skills.
Technicians can attend both re-certification and upgrade training up to 6 months before their current certificate expires. This flexibility allows for smooth planning of training and work schedules.
If your certificate has expired, make sure to review the requirements outlined in the following document:

TC032 ENG Procedure for IRATA Certification

Take care of your certification on time to continue working at the highest level in the rope access industry!

Who is the IRATA certificate for?

The IRATA certificate is the most prestigious distinction in the rope access technician industry, confirming their skills and professionalism. Each year, the number of people applying to our center increases, as more and more investors require this certificate from their employees.

Why is IRATA so highly trusted?

For over 25 years, IRATA has continuously developed safety standards for rope access work. These standards are based on practical experience as well as detailed analysis of accidents and near-miss incidents. The effectiveness of these procedures is presented in the annual “IRATA Work & Safety Analysis” reports.

An example is the 2024 report, which showed that out of nearly 32,795,726 working hours performed under the IRATA system, only 19 incidents were recorded. Such impressive statistics inspire confidence among both employers and trainees, providing a strong sense of safety and assurance that investing in this type of training is the right choice.
