Requirements for Participation in IRATA Level 3 Training
- Certification:
- Holding a valid IRATA Level 2 certificate for at least 1 year.
- A minimum of 1000 logged working hours gained after passing the Level 2 assessment.
- All hours must be recorded in the Logbook.
- For re-certification, a valid IRATA Level 3 certificate is required.
- Medical Fitness:
- No medical contraindications for working at height.
- A medical certificate is not required at the training stage – candidates provide a declaration confirming good health condition.
Log Book – A Key Document for IRATA Re-certification
A properly maintained Log Book is the primary tool used to verify a technician’s experience and is an essential requirement for IRATA certificate renewal.
Requirements for the IRATA Level 3 Examination
The Level 3 Technician examination consists of two parts: a theoretical section (online exam) and a practical assessment, both conducted on the same calendar day. The examination is supervised by a certified IRATA assessor (IRATA Assessor).
Theoretical Part
Candidates must answer 10 questions. Upon completion, one of the following results will be awarded:
- Pass (minimum 70% correct answers)
- Pass with Minor Errors (minimum 50% correct answers)
- Fail (less than 50% correct answers)
Note: Failing the theoretical exam prevents the candidate from proceeding to the practical assessment.
Practical Part
Candidates who successfully pass the theoretical exam may proceed to the practical assessment of their advanced rope access and rescue skills.

Level 3 – Rope Access Supervisor
A Level 3 technician performs a supervisory role, taking full responsibility for:
- Managing work at height operations,
- Supervising and managing rope access technicians working under their responsibility.
A supervisor at this level demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and skills covering Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 competencies. They possess advanced knowledge of:
- Rescue techniques,
- The IRATA certification system and safety procedures.
